Go watch the new Minions movie in theatres

I’m not a fan of sequels or franchises, but I took my kids to see the new Minions movie and I was impressed. Some of the physical humor pushed the envelope for a kids movie and had me cracking up. I’ve also been fascinated by Illumination Studios for a while now. From a technical and artistic standpoint we’re living an a golden era for 3D animation and much of that is thanks to Illumination Studios in Paris. They’ve perfected their pipeline for materials, sims, lighting, even optical lens effects, subtle grain, and halation.

So even if you hate Minions, it’s worth watching on the big screen to see how nuanced and proficient their team has gotten when it comes to 3D work. Those Parisians are pretty much the best 3D animators in the world right now. Who knew that the city that gave us Monet and van Gogh would also give us the most beautifully rendered talking yellow blobs ever.
