Books
The Fire, the Water, and Maudie McGinn
A YA fiction book about a girl with autism learning to surf and learning what it means to feel safe in her own skin, perhaps for the first time. Many tears were spilled while reading this book. It does a great job educating readers about the difference between safe familial love and manipulative simulacrums of it. Also extra points for its subtle critique of consumerism and image-driven capitalism.
